August 2007

By Jove, I reckon that it has been so. 2 weeks? And the last entry wasn’t even about myself!

I wished I could blog more tonight… but alas. I AM TIRED! But, to soothe everyone’s soul, I shall say a prayer.

Our Father in Heaven, holy be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done on Earth as in Heaven. give us today, our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sins against us. Do not bring us to the Test, but deliver us from Evil. Amen.

Good night everyone!

Sam Allardyce could not have wished for a better start to life as Newcastle manager thanks to two goals from Obafemi Martins.

To win 3-1 away from home on the opening day is special enough, achieving it against your former club must be especially sweet.

While Allardyce was all smiles – Charles N’Zogbia was also on target – his former assistant, Sammy Lee, has much work to do.

The new Bolton boss has promised to play a more expansive game than his predecessor, but they only started performing in the second half. By then they were 3-0 down after looking nervous from the off.

Former Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka nearly took advantage of a mix-up after five minutes. He managed to get a shot in, only to see it deflected to safety by new boy Gerald Cid.

Newcastle took the lead in the 11th minute with a goal out of nothing. N’Zogbia drove in a free-kick from the right which eluded the Bolton defence and goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

Lee looked on in disbelief as the ball nestled in the back of the net after his players had switched off. Bolton looked rattled, but Nicolas Anelka found space in the 17th minute, only to send a weak header into Stephen Harper’s arms.

Newcastle extended their lead in the 21st minute and again Bolton’s defending was poor. James Milner was able to weigh up his cross and found Martins at the back post, where he beat Jaaskelainen with a superb overhead kick.

Bolton almost pulled a goal back three minutes later, but Steven Taylor cleared Gary Speed’s effort off the line. The agony continued for Bolton in the 27th minute when Martins made it 3-0 with his second goal of the game. He had a bit of luck, however, his shot from 20 yards taking a deflection off defender Abdoulaye Faye to leave Jaaskelainen stranded.

Bolton were struggling to find their rhythm, while Martins and his Newcastle team-mates were growing in confidence. The Nigerian rattled in a shot from an acute angle after 35 minutes that went narrowly wide of the far post.

Newcastle continued to look dangerous on the break and Martins picked out Milner a minute before half-time. He tried to curl a shot from the left beyond Jaaskelainen, but his effort failed to trouble the goalkeeper.

Bolton boss Lee made a change at half-time, bringing on El-Hadji Diouf for Ricardo Vaz Te, who had been ineffective. They immediately looked more of a threat and Newcastle goalkeeper Harper was tested for the first time in the 47th minute.

He did well to beat away a shot by Gary Speed from the edge of the area after Anelka had laid the ball into his path. Bolton pulled a goal back in the 50th minute through Anelka after a superb reverse pass from Nolan. There was still work for the Frenchman to do, but he gave Harper no chance and found the corner with his effort.

That gave Bolton a fighting chance, but they never really troubled Newcastle after that. Davies then came off in the 59th minute and was replaced by former Fulham striker Heidar Helguson. Newcastle were finding it hard to raise the tempo, although Geremi went close with a free kick from distance in the 61st minute.

Helguson was then given a yellow card by referee Chris Foy six minutes later for leaving Rozehnal on the floor. Allardyce made a tactical change in the 69th minute, bringing on Nolberto Solano for Martins, and the visitors saw out the match with a degree of comfort.

Alright man!! Newcastle is top of the table with Sam’s first match, away at that, against his former club at that, and he managed to pull away with the 3 points! Newcastle seems to be looking up. (Don’t know if they were showing it live on the telly though, I missed the match!)

Had a pretty weird week.

Went to AIG on Monday to meet up with the Claims staff, and of course, Sebestian who was formerly my colleague at CityCab. That was supposed to be it for the week.

Was made to go there again on Tuesday, which pissed Jeff off enough to ramble stuff about this job. I personally felt that it was ok, it’s just that to be in one small room with him, and just a phone to share between us, is weird.

The low-down of this week, however, was the fact that my mom was involved in a car accident with a female driver. Did I mention how I hate women drivers? Ok… I’m sterotyping here. But the fact of the matter is that seriously, many a times, I am almost run down, and the chances of the driver being female is.. astonishing!

Anyways, my mom was travelling at East Coast Road towards City when she collided with a lady who thought that my mom was turning right. Bitch.

Result? My mom had to have 11 stitches on her left eye, and her eyelid muscle may have collapsed, meaning that her eyelid will droop.

I have to thank God that my mom only suffered a cut eye and that nothing else was broken, except for her vehicle, which was wrecked. I would like to meet the Third Party and slap her hard. VERY HARD.

Oh… Happy Birthday Singapore. You’re getting older. Heck, actually you’re just slightly older than my house. Heh.

Wanted to copy a code here, as Eria had done so, onto this website, so that my readers (and myself occasionally) can play Sudoku. However, I really can’t figure out why it can’t load here on wordpress.

Or is it because I am too noob?

Caught Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on Tuesday with dear’s friends at Ang Mo Kio Jubilee. $6.50! Kena cheated. Haha… anyways…

the movie continues where it left off (where exactly I’m not too sure as I didn’t watch part 4) with Harry learning that Voldemort and himself have linked minds (or something like that) and that there was an uprising against the Ministry, who repeatedly tried to take over Hogwarts.

Nice movie… though I’ve not watched parts 2 and 4. Wonder why… maybe it’s because of all the hype surrounding the books and all that really put me off.

We chanced upon the Gameplay trailer of Starcraft 2 while we were at Courts (Tampines) on Monday.

Three words. OMG. OH MY GAWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! This game (upon release) will definitely be a must-have in my opinion, though I am not too certain if my slowing reflexes has what it takes to play this type of game anymore. Haha… I’m really diggin’ the Reapers and the Immortals and the MOTHERSHIP!

 Oh well…
